Bryce Menzies in attendance at the 67th Berlin International Film Festival

The 67th Berlin International Film Festival is in full swing, and Marshalls + Dent’s Bryce Menzies is in attendance.  With over 335,000 tickets sold and more than 20,000 professional visitors from 122 countries, the festival is considered the largest publicly attended film festival in the world. Acting as a source of inspiration for the global film community, the festival hosts panel discussions, film programmes and workshops, creating a close synergy between the festival and the market.

This year, the festival is showing a collection of 400 films. And with a bratwurst and pretzel in hand, there’s no doubt that Menzies will be providing a well-informed critique of many of them.  Working in the film industry for over 30 years, Menzies continues to share his legal and financial expertise with other professionals at the epicentre of the European cinema arena. Moreover, his rich executive producer experience will bolster the authenticity of any insightful analysis shared over a German beer at the end of the day.

Red Dog True Blue opened the Generation Kplus section of the festival and was met with an overwhelmingly positive response from audience members. Marshall + Dent provided production legals on the film, with our very own Bryce acting as producer alongside Nelson Woss.

Home-grown Geoffrey Rush has been awarded the Berlinale Camera Award, honouring his lifetime contribution to film culture. Previous recipients of the award include Meryl Streep, Daniel Day-Lewis and Juliette Binoche.  It is of no doubt that this new award will sit high and proudly upon his mantelpiece. The world premiere of his new film Final Portrait, directed by Stanley Tucci, followed the presentation of his award.

With less than a week remaining of the festival, Menzies, along with all others in attendance, will look to soak up as much of the culture, history and innovation that the festival has to offer. For all others at the Marshalls + Dent office less fortunate than Menzies, a detailed review and complementary apple strudel is expected upon his return.
