The Lion roars at the Oscars

Following the overwhelmingly positive reception at Toronto International Film Festival last month, Marshalls + Dent were pleased to hear whispers that the Australian film Lion is in contention for multiple Oscar nominations including best picture, best actor and best supporting actress.

Based on a true Australian story, Lion is adapted from Hobart man Saroo Brierley’s bestselling memoir A Long Way Home. The film follows Saroo, an adopted Indian-Australian man played by Dev Patel, who embarks on one of the greatest needle-in-a-haystack quests of all time in an attempt to track down his birth family in India. Accompanying Patel is Academy Award nominee Rooney Mara as his girlfriend, and Best Actress winner Nicole Kidman and David Wenham as his adoptive parents.

Although last year was the first time since 2008 that executive producer Harvey Weinstein had missed out on a best picture nomination, he is confident Lion could pick up as many as 8 or 9 Academy Award nominations in the coming month. No word yet on whether this will include Marshalls + Dent in the “Best Legals” category.

Lion will be released in the US on November 25, and in Australian on January 19. Brace yourself for epic adventure full of colour and emotion-packed excitement.
