Kate Riley is a Special Counsel in our Family law team.
Experience
Background
Kate acts for clients in all areas of family law matters, before the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia and also outside of litigation. She has experience in a large range of matters, including:
- international relocation;
- Magellan matters; and
- complex financial matters.
In 2020, Kate worked with the Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department advising on matters arising under the Judiciary Act. While working with the Attorney General’s Department, she was involved in and appeared before the then Family Court in, the matter of Re Imogen, a leading gender dysphoria precedent case.
She also has had experience instructing in matters before the High Court of Australia.
Kate is passionate about a child-focused approach to all parenting matters and a pragmatic commercial approach to property matters.
Kate commenced at marshalls+dent+wilmoth in 2026, and has over 13 years’ experience, practising exclusively in family law matters.

LL.B – Bachelor of Laws (University of Canberra);
B.Cmn (PR) – Bachelor of Communications, Public Relations (University of Canberra)
GDLP – Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice
LL.M (Applied Law) – Master of Applied Law (Family Law)
