The Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) is back for its 71st year, featuring an eclectic range of films from across the globe. Kicking off the first night of the festival is the international premiere of Noora Niasri’s, Shayda — an engrossing drama revolving around a mother and daughter rebuilding their lives at a women’s refuge.
MDW’s Entertainment Law Team are thrilled to have handled the production legals for Shayda, along with other projects premiering at MIFF, projects recently released on streaming services, and those that have found success internationally, including:
John Curran’s psychological thriller, Mercy Road, which is making its world premiere at MIFF on August 17.
The A24 horror Talk to Me, written and directed by brothers Danny and Michael Phillippou, just had a blistering weekend in the US, achieving a staggering $10m opening weekend. According to The Guardian Newspaper, the surprise indie hit looks like it could topple Crocodile Dundee as the highest grossing Australian film ever.
The feature film football documentary The Defenders, by Matthew Bate, and the TV miniseries, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, starring Sigourney Weaver, both streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
The second season of Designing a Legacy, starring comedian and architectural enthusiast Tim Ross, is streaming on ABC iView.
Crazy Fun Park, created by Nicholas Verso, recently won the 2023 TV Week Logie Award for the Most Outstanding Children’s Program and is available to watch on ABC iView.
