Catching up with MDW’s Entertainment and Media Team: May 2025

Five members of MDW’s Entertainment and Media Team are off to different parts of the world in May, mingling with distinguished local and international producers, commissioning networks, distributors, and investors.

Screen Forever

Lawyers Ed, Freya, and Olivia are attending the 39th Screen Forever conference on the Gold Coast, one of the largest screen industry events in the Southern Hemisphere. At this event, MDW will be connecting with and learning insights from screen professionals and leaders from all corners of the industry. It is expected there will be more than 150 speakers present throughout the program, which will keep Ed, Freya and Olivia on their feet!

This year’s program focuses on ‘Changing the Narrative’, by challenging conventions and igniting new ideas. The program will explore the industry’s ability to navigate disruption and how to strengthen its resilience, turning times of uncertainty and change, into opportunities.

Cannes Film Festival

MDW also makes its return to the highly anticipated Cannes Film Festival, which is in its 78th iteration, commencing 12 May 2025. Cannes Marché du Film is also running, which will see a stacked lineup of programs and activities.

Principal Marco Angele and Senior Associate Odilla O’Boyle will be representing MDW in joining the global film community in Cannes, where they will be busy networking and meeting with esteemed producers, distributors, financiers and sales agents. They will be taking this opportunity to grow MDW’s connections in the international entertainment industry and unlock new and exciting opportunities.

We’re excited to be attending the 78th Cannes Film Festival. The opportunity to meet with our international counterparts, attend networking events and bring market intelligence and new connections back to our clients in Australia will not only be beneficial to them, but also to our media team at MDW Lawyers”.  – Odilla and Marco
