AACTA Awards

This month, Australia’s brightest industry talent gathered at the AACTA Awards to celebrate achievements in film and entertainment. 

Now in its 64th year, AACTA champions and acknowledges home-grown Australian film and entertainment practitioners in sectors including television, online, visual effects, and animation.

Ithaka (2022)

Ithaka follows father of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, John Shipton, on his battle to free his son and shine a light on freedom of journalism, government corruption, and unpunished war crimes. 

We Were Once Kids (2021) 

Nominated for Best Editing in a Documentary 

A personal documentary about the real-life individuals who inspired Larry Clark’s 1995 cult classic KIDS.

Wyrmwood: Apocalypse (2021) 

Nominated for Best Hair and Makeup 

Rhys is a soldier and a hunter living in a zombie infested wasteland. His job is to capture civilians and deliver them to what’s left of the military and the brutal Surgeon General. When Rhys captures a half-zombie, half-human named Grace, he comes to believe she is the key to ending the apocalypse. 

Wog Boys Forever (2022) 

Nominated for Audience Choice Award for Best Film 

The once infamous Steve ‘The Wog Boy’ Karamitsis is now in his mid-life years, still single and working as a taxi driver. The comedic feature-film follows his pursuit of former flame Cleo, and battle with Immigration Minister Brianna Beagle-Thorpe. 

Surviving Summer 

Nominated for Best Editing in Television 

A rebel New York teen is shipped off to Australia and makes waves among a young surfer’s inner circle. The story follows Summer’s love of the town, the people, and the surf.
